I replaced the two oil check valves under the valley pan on my 12v engine. They are suppose to get 33ft/lb but one of them got like 45ft/lb before it stripped on me - this is because my wrench was not giving me a click for some reason. So now I have a $50 valve with a stripped head and I'd rather not worry about it until the next time they are replaced. Will it operate fine being overly tight? or do I have to get it out now and put a new one in at the right torque for it to function properly. I can't see why it wouldn't work being tight but want to hear from someone who is more expert.

If it's stripped, it should be replaced, as the torque
will now be very low.

 

the allen head of the valve is stripped i meant. not the thread. So it is gonna be hard to get out. I think though that it was designed this way...so the allen key head would strip before you put so much torque on it that it stripped the thread or twisted it while inside the engine block where it could cause a problem.. so maybe the overtorque is not bad for valve functioning..this is my question.

 

I'd leave it alone.
