Overheat - HELP!!!
On the way home today, my A6 started over heating and the needle went to hot. I pulled into an Auto Zone and checked the coolant and it was completely full. Any ideas on why it might be over heating? The car has no symptoms except for the light and heat gauge. I'm going to have to take it to the stealership in the morning and want to have an idea of what I might be looking at. Please help!!! Thanks.

Bump.
I'm leaving for the stealership at 6:30 tomorrow morning and need some ammunition for battle. God, I hope my warranty covers this. I have a good feeling that it will.

Hi Cary12
I had similar problems with my S8, A8 and A6!!
Firstly, there are a number of components which affect the cooling system. As far as i remember you have a viscous fan and an electric fan.
The viscous fan will turn continuosly whilst the engine is running and should increase, with a lag, with the speed of the engine (RPM)
The electric fan should cut in when the viscous fan cannot cope with the heat that is surrounding the engine and coolant.
Do you know if the electric fan was on when you opened the bonnet to check the coolant level?
Did you notice if the viscous fan was spinning when you had the bonnet open?
Was the car idling or driving when it bagan to overheat?
Did the temperature start to cool when you hit the open road?
If you can answer these i'll be able to diagnose it some more for you
Thanks

I just got the call from the stealership and it's the thermostat. I spoke with my warranty company and they said it will be covered. The guy at the service desk told me earlier this morning that if it's not covered, it would be $1900!!!! I called a high performance shop today and they would do it for $540 if it wasn't covered. Come on! What is up with the dealers getting away with that crap? They need to be regulated by the government for this type of crap. It just makes me sick to go in there and they are the only Audi dealer in our state!
