Default Please help - A6 Light Problem - Help Please

My 2001 A6 Quattro is showing a light problem on the trouble panel. I have a left rear "Stop Light" out. I have checked and replaced the bulb that is out. Trouble is, the bulb is okay but it still won't light when the parking or headlights are on. I checked the bulb by swapping it with another side parking light. It works on the right side.

I can't figure this one out except that the problem must be with the circuit to the light.

NE1 have this problem? What was the cure? I hate to go to the dealer until I have exhausted all DIY possibilities.

Thanx!!!!!

sounds like you have a no power feed to that stop light F13 fuse works both, run a wire from the other stop light bulb as a temporary solution till you find the broken wire

Default Found the problem

I found that one side of the fuse holder had dislodged itself such that the fuse blade was not engaging.

It took about 2 hours to run the trace from the light to the fuse holder. I got lucky that the problem was on the bulb side and not the power side. I had a good circuit except when I got to the fuse. At this point I also had a good fuse when I checked it out of the holder. Then I checked the circuit from the clip to the bulb - No continuity. [sm=smiley35.gif] WTF - I used a mirror to check the back of the fuse holder and sure enough I could see that the connector had backed out. Pushed it back in, reinstalled the fuse and problem solved. Just saved a couple hundred bucks.

I had had this type of thing happen on my 98 A4 when I installed a 6 disc changer. Found one of the pins had pushed out of the holder.
