Default question about interchangeable axle shafts

I recently bought a 2000 audi a6 2.7t. The driver side front axle boot is torn and is starting to click while turning. I also have a 1999 audi a4 1.8t that i bought as a parts car about a year ago for the last audi i had owned. I still have a few parts laying around and i was wandering if the axle shaft out of the a4 is interchangeable with the a6. If anyone has the correct answer to this please reply. i have heard of people interchanging shafts for better durablitly.

Default A6 axle shaft

I don't know about interchangability. I do know that the boot is easily replaced, costs next to nothing (about $40) and the joint can be cleaned and reused in many cases. That being said, take it apart and try to rebuild it.

If that fails, I have a parts car with the proper shaft.

Please feel free to pm me for details.

Rick
