I could really use some advice with this frustrating issue.... my car: 1997 Audi A4 B5 Quattro sedan 2.8L SOHC 12V

I've been rebuilding/replacing the rear suspension, axles, brakes, control arms, bushings, wheel bearings, etc. I had destroyed my ABS Wheel Speed Sensors in the process of trying to remove them. I bought expensive original VW/Audi OEM sensors, part number 8A0 927 807 C (from Amazon in VW boxes says "made in Hungary" but sensors themselves say "made in China") and installing them last night, the sensors refused to go in until "seated". I discovered that the end of the sensors were against the tone/reluctor ring. How is this possible? I can back them off a little so that they aren't in contact but how do I know that the gap is correct?

I installed new rear axles at the same time from Raxles, who use brand new Audi CV joints, so I don't imagine that the tone rings would be incorrect, right?

Does anyone have experience with this situation? I would so appreciate advice! Thank you.
