Replacing Transmission Fluid
Our A6 has over 75K on it and I know the transmission does not shift as smoothly as it did originally. I've read several posts on why its important to change the fluid and not believe that it can really last a 'lifetime'.
It turns out the Audi transmissions are sealed. The dealer says they can change the fluid $$$ but I wonder if there is a way for me to do it? Is there a kit out there that makes this easy? I also wonder if I should put the original clear Audi fluid back or perhaps one of the premium fluids like AMSOil, Redline etc. I've had great success with the later in other cars.
Thanks,
RGW

Changing the tranny fluid is easy. Changing the fluid and the filter is easy as well, but much more involved. Here's a link that will get you straight.........

But rather than the VAG tool they call for to get a reading on the tranny fluid temperature, I just used a thermocouple. If you have no other way to measure the temperature, you can use a digital thermometer or simiar device.
Oh.......and use Pentosin ATF1 fluid, always.
One last bit of advice........have 6 quarts of fluid on hand, not five.
Cheers
