Default abs brake light on yoooooo!

Just bought a well maintained 98 a4 2.8 Q with 180k. Going through some early fixes. Ordered a Bentley manual, etc.
ABS and brake lights on dash. I've read that these things often need abs modules. Is it the one that looks like it is attached to a pressure pump? Is there another one? Anything to look for besides this? thanks in advance for your help.

Default abs

Thanks for the reply. I did see the vag list and there are a couple of guys an hour away. The brake pedal feels like it pulses a little, but doesn't feel sensitive like I would imagine it should. It feels kind of soft. It has new calipers and rotors - so it isn't that. MAybe a sensor got messed up or disconnected during the procedure. I'll have to take the wheels off I guess. the guy I bought the car from said it needs the module. We'll see. thANKS.

i'd pull the code before you do anything...

and they make abs module rebuild kits... they are somewhat cheaper

Could be a damaged wheelspeed sensor, especially if the previous owner replaced any wheel bearings - it's easy to ruin one of those while doing that (or many other suspension related jobs).

Definitely will check those. Thinking about contacting one of the guys on the vag list to get a code. Got my Bentley manual in the mail yesterday - so I've been checking that out. Is that a Yuengling Lager?

Definitely get in touch with someone local to you - VagCom is indispensible (thankfully around here Hiwords has it on his laptop - it's been a great asset for all of us - thanks buddy!). If you have a laptop, download the software from www.ross-tech.com and buy the interface cable on eBay for $20 and you'll be in business yourself.

And yes, that's a Yueng, being tossed down tailgating before a Dave Matthews concert this summer - it's in the top five slots on my list of beers of choice
