Default RE: royal purple... IV? III?

We're a combination of synthetics including both Group IV's (PAO) and
V's (Esters but do not use Polyol Esters)- is not as simple as trying to
put a square peg into a square hole. Formulators rarely use a single
straight base stock - as solubility, solvency, and seal elastomer
compatibility issues can result using a single type of base stock.

Audi follows the VW standards and we exceed all their standards, but
since we are an American based company that uses base stocks from the
US, that is one of the reasons you will not find RP under their
recommended oils. In order to get their approval we would have to send
our oil over seas and pay to have it tested. Once it was tested, we
would have to ship it back to the US and then sell it to you. This
would be very expensive. Another way would for us to do business from
Europe and send the oil over here to sell and the last choice would be
to buy their oils and package them as our own. Royal Purple has higher
standards and pushes the oil as far as it can go, Our oil has been
used in VWs and Audis for many years in the UK and Europe with out any
problems.

We do offer RP 5w40 that exceeds the European specs.
