Default smoking own tail lights

hey people!!!

I have yet another bright idea I wanna consult you on: I want to smoke my own tail lights.
I got an 01 a6, so hellas run about 300.
I found a spray that the manufacturer claims to be great of course, for 12.99
Seems like a good deal, but I wanted to find out if anyone tried this before and if it works and what are the downsides and so on and so forth...
SO LET IT SPILL:

opted against the spray. currently have two alternatives : used smoked hellas (if I can find them) or Jon's Tinted Tails' style tint...

I've done both my own A4 and my son's Jetta Mk2 tailights with a light exterior spray of black laquer paint. Key part is light coats till it looks good, but not too dark. Also a good upfront cleaning is key. Two years later they still look good.

Yep, used it many times - as raschul said, do multiple light coats and don't get yourself in a hurry. When I did my tails on the Audi, I gave them six or so coats with half an hour's drying time in between, and then let them sit overnight before handling them. Clean them really well before you start, and then wipe them down with an alcohol handi-wipe (since it evaporates), and TAKE - YOUR - TIME. Do that, and they'll look great.
