Default Starter?

Where is the starter? and is it easy to replace? I have a 99.5 audi a4 1.8T tip...I search but couldnt find anything helpful....The reason why i ask, because my car occasionally wont start if i drove it for awhile unless i waited awhile and not starting if after 30 stopping the engine. The battery is full but if doesnt sound like it turning over at all. sorry if this is confusing but Thanks for any advice!

Default RE: Starter?

The starter is on the passenger side kinda underneeth the turbo. If you want to check and see if its the starter, disconnect the two wire connector at the starter and check for voltage. You should get 12v whenever you put the key in the crank position. If you dont always have 12v there with the key in the cranking position, the you have an ignition switch problem. I should also note that ive seen alot more failures in the electrical portion of the ignition switch than ive seen starter failures.

I had one replaced a couple months ago... you have to get the car up and remove the front underpan. the guy said it was a little tricky for one of the bolts...he needed a pretty long extension on his ratchet to get to one of them. He also noted that one of the grounding wires had become loose and may of contributed to its failure. other than that it was probably simple and straight forward, they only charged me like a $100 for labor. If I could get it off the ground reasonably I would of done it myself.
