Default timing

i'm helping a friend work on his 2000 tt coup.the timing belt tensioner went bad and i was asked to help him work on the tt.in i messed up with the belt i had cut it off thinking it was the acc belt as i didn't know he had took off the belt already along with the cam pulley to replace the cam's gaskets.so how do i re-clock the cams to the crankshaft to get right on the timing.i already searched the web looking this up in all i found was how i planed on doing it with marking the pulleys & belt and marking the new belt with lines from old belt.so any and all help on this i would be most grateful.i'm new on the audiforums but been a member on ls1gto.com & ls1tech.com for years with self built tt gto's.if i'm not clear on what i'm asking about just say so
