Default Tool Bos

Hey folks. I'm new to the German cars but have been working on cars all my life. Mostly Asian cars and some American ones too. I also know that German cars can require a lot of special tools. My question is, what sort of special tools do I need to do the regular maintenance on my 06 A3, 6 speed MT, 2.0T. I'm talking about oil filter wrenches, torx bits, and anything required to do a t-belt service including a good shop manual. Thanks for the help in advance.

Wilkommen to the forums!

I've found that you really don't "need" most of the special tools. I did my timing belt and with the exception of the torx bits and metric hex bits, most of the other stuff I was able to improvise. there are a few tools, triple squares and poly-drive, that are necessary for some of the more "intensive" maintenance procedures but not for regular maintenance type stuff.

the Bentely manual is the most often recommended service book (bentley publishers) a lot of people like Elsawin as well.

good luck
