I recently purchased an A4 with a 1.8T Auto w/40,000 miles. I have noticed that when the trans shifts into 3rd gear, as I accel the RPMs reach 3000, then it seems the trans shifts again but not into fourth......the tach drops to 2200ish. I dont know what the problem is if there is a problem. It does it when Im in Manuel mode too. Also if Im in Manual mode cruisin in 5th and I slow down to the point that the trans automatically downshifts into 3rd, as I accel again the same thing, I dont shift into fourth but the RPMs show as if I did. When I shift into 4th the RPMs drop like normal. Someone please let me know what is going on. Im looking into Audi about the original warranty. Any help would be much appreciated.

if the RPM drops to 2200 from 3000 surely its gone into 4th??

 

I can tell it doesnt b/c I can still shift into 4th and then 5th when Im in man. mode

 

Correction to the problem this situation happens when the trans shifts from 1st to 2nd not 2nd to 3rd. This issue is bothering me.....its not anything bad but it doesnt seem right.

 

mine does this also,i think it's like a lock-up switch or 2 stage gear so it does'nt dog out in 2'nd going uphill at lower speeds.

With 40,000 mile exactly, I paid just over $17,000 with taxes and fees. I had to go to Dallas TX but it was well worth it.

 

I believe there was a post about this in another section of the forum. It seemed to be a regular amount of slippage in the trans. My 2.7t Tip will do the same thing if it shifts then I suddenly bring on the boost.. Never thought of it as a problem. Try doing a search.
