Default Using OBDTool to Remove the Auto Level Error. Any thoughts?

Hi all,

Forum newbie here, so please be gentle!

Saw a great writeup on how to clear an error code I recently encountered after removing the bumper and headlights, but had a question that wasn't clearly answered within the article, partly because the whole issue is entirely new to me....

Can anyone tell me what are the minimum requirements in order to change/reset error codes? (mine is the "Headlight Range Control Defective" error that comes on after ignition)

According to the writeup, it seems that I need a code reader for the onboard computer, called an "OBDtool Version 2 - Dual K-Line" and that's the actual hardware that should link the OBC to a laptop, but do I need to buy anything also from Vag-Com as well??

All I want to do is clear this code, nothing else, so only interested in a one-time fix with no further mods down the road.

Can I simply download the software from the Vag-com website for free? and it will run with the OBDtool? Or am I missing something else?

Alternatively, if someone out there already has the OBDtool and Vag-Com locally here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada I wouldn't mind flipping you a few bucks to help me out since it seems the process only takes a few minutes in total.

Just FYI, the article I'm referring to is:
http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...autolevel.html

Thanks for any help and info you guys can offer!
Kamy

I may be missing what you are saying...if all you need to do is clear the code, you can take it to Autozone or Advance and they are happy to do it for you.

Hi SlackJaw,

I appreciate you trying to help but are you talking about auto shops located in Tulsa? (I'm assuming that's your location?)

As my post mentions, I'm located in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada... are these shops you're mentioning local to me?

Thanks,
Kamy

heh heh, sorry I missed that...AutoZone and Advanced are national US chains, if I'm not mistaken...just regular ol' auto parts stores... what do you have up there?

might be worth calling around a bit, again if all you need is to clear the code...I got mine read and cleared last night, takes less than 5 minutes and absolutely free.
