Hello everyone, i am new here and i am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, i am looking to buy an audi A4 V6 around 1997/8 model but i dont know which size to go for i.e 2.4, 2.6 or 2.8, is there any i should stay away from ? which is the best ? and are there any common faults to look out for etc...any comments would be much appreciated, thanks

im assuming your over the pnd, really their all the same in design minus the displacement, i also believe the one you mention came only in 12v form whereas the 2.8 came in either a 12v or 30v form. their all really reliable engine obviously the smally ou go the less fuel you use but you also loose more power. i know the 2.6 had a 150 the 2.8 12v had 172 and the 30v 2.8 had 190. personally the 12v are easier to work on for me but that all depends on your opinion, as long as teh t-blet and water pump and tensioners are changed every 90k mile soyu should be good with all of them.

 

2.8 is IMO one of the best motors Audi has ever made as far as reliability and performance... next to the new 3.2 FSI
