Default VAG COM vs. OBD tool

I see that a Vag Com runs $600 to $900! I also see a OBD toolfor $71..............Question, is it worth it to buy the OBD, will it diagnose most issues enough to be worth purchasing, or will I end up needing to connect a Vag Com anyway?

I think benefit of having vag-com is that you can get more details from your ECM.
OBDII is just simple diagnostic tool that read off from ECM but only reads error codes.

vag-com is way to go I think. I got both.

In that Ebay ad there are several meters and the one that looks more impressive is the Max Scan VAG405,Buy it Now...$149.97

How does this compare with the Vag-Com... non-professional, selling for$229. ?? Hay, there's an $80 difference, and I'm not rich!

Do you need CAN bus?
If not, buy a code reader from alpha-bid
for under $30.
