what engine & gearbox help pls

Hi all
i was originally going chevy with my Minotaur kit car but lack of work has seen my engine fund disapear.
with very good advice from a couple of very good friends i am thinking audi now, A8 4.2
has been recommended for my mid engine car ,(and apparently if i can find a 2 wheel drive manuel then i should be able to drop it straight in), but is this the best option as i would be ok with a 3 litre . bearing in mind fuel prices and availablity.
as far as all the electrics involved with a new engine im way out of my depth but apparently that shouldnt cause too much of a problem.
does any one have any thoughts , any ideas or spec also
were and how is the best place to purchace a good one?
many thanks stu this is the space i have www.asci24.dsl.pipex.com/car/tanks3.JPG
& this is my car www.asci24.dsl.pipex.com/minotaur.htm

difficult to say without knowing the dimensions so I could only guess and why a v8 ( how heavy is the chassis ) and engine size is a matter of weight rather than power or show look what lotus did with the 1.6 engine power to weight ratio being the issue

true , i have no bones with using a v6
but you can see what the car looks like and i had room for a chevy small block.
to give u a little history this is the first kit i have ever built,
the guy that sold it to me has been as good as useless (the car designer) there are no instructions
and i cant get any help from him so im having to figure everything out myself.
i was originally sold a mopar engine from a friend of his that i lost £600 on because i was led to believe it was a chevy and silly me i trusted them.
since this he has sold the rights to build the car to pilgrim so i guess cause i didnt buy it from them im screwed.
i just need a break and a little help at this stage because at the moment im pretty well screwed
so thanks for any help its much appreciated i can assure u
cheers stu
(there is a lot more i could bleat on about but i would just sound bitter)
i just want an affordable modern engine that will be big enough so it doesnt look lame , this car is 7 foot wide

the width of the car compared to the width of the engine bay and the engine bay is more important because of obvious reasons, could it take a 4x4 set up? or FWD only, the car is built so engine bay is your primary concern

looking at the pictures I would be thinking something along the older jaguar engine RWD

i will measure engine bay tommorow
but it can not run 4wd
its engine is at the rear so whilst i say fwd it will actually be running the rear wheels
did u look at my web site ?
cheers stu

TDI is low geared torque so depending on what your after like power, is it a performance car your building??
