I just picked up an '01 A6 today and it is in need of some body work. What are the strips on the doors called? They run horizontally on the outside and are little stylish strips (see attached picture). I'm looking to purchase some new ones does anybody have ANY idea where I can get them? Do they just pop on or are they glued or what?

I'm actually also interested in the piece that is parallel to it and right below the piece circled in red. It's the trim piece at the bottom of the door and I could use 4 new ones. I'd like to find some that are similar/the same as the A6 4.2 as they are a bit wider and frankly better looking.

Mine are beat up from Minnesota winters -- if you've ever opened your door only to jam it into an icy snow bank and then tried to close it, you've probably had the same problem as me.

Should I try going to a body shop for this? I'd much rather do it myself but I'm having a tough time getting the pieces. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you for the tips! I actually just found a local scrap yard with a 2001 2.8 sitting around. I'm wondering if you have any idea how to get these pieces off?

I don't have good info for you, but vaguely remember seeing my B7 with them removed and it seemed like they were clips, and removed in an upward direction...I could be COMPLETELY wrong about that...

Something I remember more vividly is the mechanic telling me that the side-airbag sensors are in there, so there is a procedure or caution indicated...unconfirmed, but I wouldn't discount it.
