Where is the thermostat on my 12v a4
this is pissing me off i dont wanna work in the cramped space under hood of my a4 2.8 and i dont wanna dish out money at audi, i bought 4 little bulbs for my climate control cost me 5.50 a pop. i can get the thermostat cheap but i dont know where the bugger goes, please tell me its at the end of one of the radiator hoses or something because idont wanna open everything up and loosen the tensioner just replace a thing that takes like 5 minutes on my honda, pics really help, help me out guys, i love this car and almost got all the bugs worked out.
Here is how to replace it. It takes a mechanic about 3 1/2 hours.
I would not recommend you do it yourself. I would recommend if you want to save some money on the repairs, go to an independant shop and you'll save between 10-30 per hour, which can be a lot of cash.
-Drain Coolant
-Remove front bumper
-Put lock carrier in service position
-Remove ribbed belt
-Remove toothed belt
-Remove connection mounting bolts and remove connection
-Remove thermostat
-Bleeder valve for thermostat must be at top
-Install thermostat into engine block
-Moisten new o-ring with coolant
-Install connection for thermostat and tighten bolt to 7ft lbs.
-Install and tension toothed belt. Refer to toothed belt, removing and installing.
-Install ribbed belt.
-Fill cooling system with coolant.
Heres a picture of it.

i wouldn't suggest doing it yourself..
when you get it done do your second timing belt, water pump service too.
i had a local guy (guru) do it for me in his garage. total time was about 4 hours, total parts cost about $400
local shop will charge close to $900[:@]
