Well, at a minimum I'd say you're gonna want drilled rotors. I haven't heard anything bad about Zimmerman's rotors. In fact, I have Zimmermans, front and rear, drilled & slotted. I went with the addition ofslotted on account of my car weighs 2 tons, and I do a lot of inner-city driving with lots of repeated HARD stops to zero from highway speeds, several times per commute. Others have suggested drilled are more than enuff, for everyday (read: non-track) driving, and I tend to agree. But I drive a 3865lb car, and I prefer the extra confidence I feel with drilled AND slotted. Just me.
I got my first set from irotors, and, within 6 months I had cracks around almost ALL of the chamfered drill-holes. One guy I talked to said it was because I opted for ceramic pads, too, which (according to brake-guy) have a tendency to resist heat and reflect it BACK to the rotors, instead of helping to absorb and dissipate it, causing premature failure of teh rotors. So, no more ceramic pads, and I switched to Zimmerman rotors. 4 months and no cracks. Don;t know if it was the Zimmermans (which were slightly more expensive), or the switch away from ceramic pads. We'll see. Life is an ongoing series of experiments. My fear is that, when I do eventually get it right, a piano will fall on me the very next day[:@]

RE: A6 front pads & rotors
This is my first Audi (2002 A6 Avant) but I used only Repco metallics on my BMWs... and slotted and drilled rotors. I've been very happy with those combinations but do not know where to find Audi parts like these or the tech advice to go with them... any source recommendations???

RE: A6 front pads & rotors
I've got a few online resources I comb throo, when I'm lookin for parts. Here's my "oarts links" folder, in a nutshel. Happy hunting.
http://www.usedpartslive.com/catalog/index.php
http://www.discountgermanparts.com/performance/
http://www.autopartsauthority.com/
http://www.blauparts.com/
http://www.autoanything.com/
http://cpwstore.carpartswholesale.com/
http://www.car-part.com/index.htm
Bare in mind that many of these places actually SHARE the same parts distributor. So, something you can't find somewhere may not be available at several other places, as well. But, as you surf, you'll definitely notice a similiarity in the interfaces at several of teh websites. I only included them because I'm too lazy to weed out and delete the ones that so obviously share a database. SO, anyway, once you've serched high & low, if you still can't find it, or you want one last shot at beating the onlune price, shoot a PM to MY parts guy, s/n - rayveedub Tell him "Jazz" sent you. Most things if he can't find them they're not on THIS continent, yet.
EDYT: forgot to mention eBay. Check ebay, but DON'T buy something as important as rotors from an individual seller. Check ONLY the eBay parts stores...

Thanks for these sites... I'll check 'em out. Really appreciate your help and remember... it's better to learn to play that piano than wait for it to fall on you.
Last tidbit... No matter where you go... there you are.

RE: A6 front pads & rotors
I have a 2002 A6 Avant with the 3.0L engine. I am traveling for business and do not have any other specifics at my disposal but once I get back to Dallas, what other specifics would you need??? Thx in advance for your reply.

RE: A6 front pads & rotors
Zimmermen are quality rotors, and have the holes cast in. So they are not drilled in later. Never go that route.
PBR pads are ok, but Audi's are much heaver then BMW's. SO my thoughts towards performance is Performance
Friction, or Ferdo pads.
If you want to improve the brakes, get some stainless steel lines, & flush the fluid. It greatly improves pedal feel
& brake power.
