what do you guys recommend for a aftermarket HU with built sirius and nav? i have only had my 01 A4 for a few weeks now, but i quickly noticed the front door speakers and rear deck speakers are blown out. i disconnected the woofers on the rear deck so now i am riding bass free but atleast i dont have the annoying rattle. i would like to put in a decent hu and replace the blown speakers...

IMO id keep the HU stock, as for speakers id go Eclipse or Kicker audi, re plug in the subs and put some silencing materials around rattle prone areas(trunk latch etc)

I suggest the Pioneer AVIC-D3. It will light up red, and is the closest thing I've seen to an OEM Audi radio. Of course it plays CDs, but also DVD, iPod, satellite radio, and navigation. It's a very complete package.

To make this work in Audi cars requires some work - but rest assured it's well worth it! The BOSE system is a pain to work with, so my suggestion is to bypass/remove these parts. There is an internal amplifier on the AVIC, but the wiring is going to be challenging. You should run new speaker wire from the AVIC to each of the 4 speakers. The grommets will put up a fight, and I suggest tapping into the wires near the amplifier, but you could also tap into them in the kickpanels for the door speakers. Find the appropriate sized speakers and replace them.

The display between the gauges won't work with ANY after-market H/U. It's a proprietary digital code with the OEM H/U. The steering wheel controls CAN be wired to use with a new H/U. PAC's SWIX should do the trick.

well.. im going to keep the stock head unit. I ordered some new 6.5inch speakers for the rear deck... so hopefully it will atleast sound a little better. what are you guys doing for satellite radio? is there anyway to have integrated satellite radio like the newer A4s have through the 2001's head unit?

so you can keep the steering wheele controls but it wil cost you $$$$$. you will need one of these along with either of these to work. PESWIX (IR univeral); PESWIEC (For Eclipse radios); PESWIPS(for Pioneer, Sony, dual, or jensen radios with wired remote input); PESWIAKJ (For Alpine, Kenwood, clarion, or JVC). this will get your steering wheele controls working, as long as your radio has a remote input..
