i have a 2001 audi a4.
and the ashtray under my stereo...because of the pressure of the dashboard underneath it is pushing it up so it is stuck.
i can get it in and out using a screwdriver as a lever.
is there anyway i could fix this?

 

Hah! My 2002 S4 is having the same issue... I'm going to take it apart and see what is rubbing on it... It's rather frustrating. I wish someone in the know would have posted on this...

 

i got you guys on this one, same thing happend to me haha

pop the thing out with a screwdriver, and take the ashtray cup out. look down inside and there is a tab on each side way down in. just push them down (you have to use 2 pens to get to them) and pull out. its kind of difficult because you have to put pressure on the pens and pull out on the assembly at the same time, but after a few frustrating attempts youl get it. the whole ashtray lighter assembly will pull right out. clean out the obstruction and pop it back in, should work like a charm.

Ill give that a try as well. i have encountered the same thing. pull up to a parking spot with a meter, go to get change out, thing wont open, so i sit there and push the thing repeatedly with excessive force and cuss at it a few times, then get out the ol knife from a door compartment and pry it open. pisses me off

 

If that doesn't work you could always pop off the trimming around the stereo and there should be two tabs above the ashtray to release the whole thing out, fix the problem and pop it back in....I did this except I deleted my whole ashtray made for better space since I'm a non smoker =]
