Default Ashtray Jam...

I know there is change stuck behind by ashtray (I assume it slid behind down from the top of the little door when it was opened). So I pulled up the plastic trim around the gear selector and took out the two screws holding the ashtray. After trying for an hour to take the ashtray out completly to un-jam the coins, I gave up and tried to put it back in. But I can't quite get it to be flush the way it used to be. Any suggestions? I don't want to remove the A/C head unit unless I have to.

I know this is a common problem so hopefully someone can give some suggestions... I'm not very good with cars but hopefully I can at least fix this with some advice

The best way to get it out is through the radio... take out the radio with the radio keys ( you probably don't have them and need to get them ) and the AC controls... or you can try this method: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...hlight=Ashtray Good luck either way.

Is removing the radio and A/C unit an easy job? Would I have to reset any radio codes after unplugging the wire from the car? I just dont want to end up any worse than I am right now or having to take it to the dealer for it to be fixed.

Yes, if you disconnect the radio you need the code.

Default removing the a/c unit

i have this very same problem with the coins getting stuck behind the ashtray cover.
anyways, once i have the keys to remove the radio, what is the step then to take out the a/c unit? does that require a key too? i just want to make sure i have everything i need to take both units out.

thanks in advance!

Try using a wire to slide underneath the tray to get them out. I just did this the other day in my B5 and got about 50 cents worth of change outta there
