Hi folks,
New member to forum, but have been viewer on and off for years. Needing advice for current Audi, so officially joined.
I'm in Maine so looking for fellow enthusiasts around here.
Currently, '00 A6 Avant with no mods. Has been daily driver for 7 years, but needs tranny now. Commuter car is '06 Mazda 3.
Former: '90 90 20v Quattro. Super fun with minor mods. Was hoping to swap in 20v turbo, but never did. Died of dreaded electrical issues that multiplied and cpu issues.
Former: '87 4000 Quattro. Fun also, with minor mods, also. Super high mileage.
Former: a few VW GTI's dating back to '84 Rabbit GTI. Nicely moded without boost. Miss that fun, lightweight machine.

Hey guys! I drive a 1999.5 Audi A4 2.8L, Volcano Black with tan interior. She's currently a tip-tronic. I've had her for about two years now and have a few options on what to do next lol.
Possibly doing a VRTT/RWD conversion in the future! Can't wait to start the research!
Cheers!

hello everyone. my name's jamie and i just bought a 02 A4 quattro sport for my wife. it's our first audi and i am thrilled with it so far. it was dealer serviced and ran well so hopefully we got a good one. i've lurked on here the past week or so since i got the car and have found alot of great information. i look forward to being part of the forums. thanks.
Hello, Im a noob on here. I am not sure what the proper protocol is but the instructions said to not talk technical here and just say hello. My name is kumar. I have an audi a4 quattro 1997. Black. It is all stock. Love the little car. but it needs some help. Thanks,
Welcome Jamie. Like you, I too had no intentions of ever owning an Audi, but a 2000 A8 Quattro fell into my lap in April 2012. I bought it for $6,000. Since then, I've put another $6,000 into it...the large ticket items being a $2,700 trans rebuild, an $1100 upper control arms replacement, and a $1,700 timing belt replacement + miscellaneous items. Also, I just replaced spark plugs and ignition coils (another $230).
Mine is a love-hate relationship. I love the outstanding handling, the 4-wheel drive, the styling, the aluminum body, the plush interior. But I hate all the little annoyances. How can I describe it? The best word I can come up with is Quirky. Seems like there is always something new wrong everyday. The sunroof suddenly doesn't open. The LED odometer fades to blank when the car gets hot. The Check Engine light comes on and spits out trouble codes that are special to Audi and incoherent to Advance Auto or anyone else. The oil filter is a throwback to the 1940s: it has a permanent steel housing, you replace only the paper element.
I think the biggest irritant is that the Audi engineers are apparently arrogant or stupid. They give no consideration to making maintenance easy. One of the 4 screws on the air filter cover is inaccessible without taking the intake duct apart. There is no transmission fluid dipstick or filler tube (I guess the engineers designed it with the idea that their trans will last forever, thus you don't need a dipstick or filler tube. Only to find out later that the fluid should be changed every 80,000 miles and that it's a really bad thing to let the fluid level get low). The three little black plastic grills in the lower area of the bumper all fell off (guys in the forum say they added zip ties to hold theirs on. Mine were missing when I bought the car. They're a fortune to replace - if you can find them.).
All that said, I really hope to keep this car for at least another 9 years. By then, it will be at about 350,000 miles (175,000 by me and 175,000 by the previous owner). It's been a hard winter here in northeastern IL and the Quattro system is awesome in the snow.
I hope you have better luck with yours. After you've owned it for a couple years, you'll have to write to me and tell me if you agree that Audis are just "Quirky".
