Hey everybody -

I am almost ready to buy a used Audi A4. I have wanted one for about 6 years and the days are finally numbered. Now, I have a tough decision to make. I have the opportunity to buy an Audi A4 at an auction through a contact at a dealership. The Audi's can come from anywhere in the US, so I have a fairly big selection. I have been set on getting a 2003 or a 2004. I am curious as to what you guys think would be a better performance car, the 1.8T or the 3.0. I have been planning on the 3.0 Quattro but am questioning if that is the best option. What do you guys think? I plan on doing little modification as I am not going to have much money afterward. So as a stock car which one would be better in speed and handling? I am sure there are many different opinions out there but I just wanted to learn a few. Any other issues I should consider that you guys can think of would be greatly appreciated (manual, automatic or tiptronic, etc.) Thanks for the help!!

hey if you want to mod the car go for the 1.8t casue that has way more potenial then the V6
there is nothing really for the V6 engine and intake and exhuast and a crazy mod like a supercharger
the 1.8t will have more parts and more potential and i would go for a stick if you plan to mod

 

welcome to the forums, jmohnuofo...if you're not looking to mod at all, the V6 is definitely the nicer car, stock...it is faster and the V6s typically have better interiors (real leather, burlwood trim, etc.)

 

Even if you don't plan to mod, I would recommend a stick. If you drive in heavy traffic 10% of the time, you will regret having bought an automatic 90% of the time. Even in heavy traffic when I have to take the freeway to my friend's house in rush hour, its really not a pain to drive.

3.0 v 1.8T all depends on what you plan to do, just like others have said. The 3.0 is fast, but doesn't give you much room to mod, while the 1.8T is not quite as powerful stock, but can definitely be modded to hell (just ask TomRitt). Plus I like the sporty feel and the pull of a turbo

Personally, I would go for the 1.8T.

If your thinking of adding parts to it, go for the 1.8T also

If you dont plan on doing any mods, i would personally take the 3.0 becasue it has a good amount more hp stock then the 1.8t, but if u do plan on modding now or in the future i would go with the 1.8t because it is more of tuner car and the parts are more commenly made.
