I have had a 2002 Allroad from new and have never had the car serviced by anyone other than the Audi dealer where it was purchased. Presently, it has 84K miles and performs as well as it did when new. However, lately I have been doing a lot of unplaned walking after driving then the parking the car when I go to lunch, because it fails to start. I even tried eating at another restaurant but it made no difference.

If allowed to sit for a couple of hours, or over night, it will start.

This happens about 1 -3 times a month. It's always a surprise. There is no dashboard indication that anything is amiss. When it does start, it runs as nothing was wrong. The dealer cannot find any record of a failure mode on the computer when I had brought it in for analysis.

Once I had it towed to the dealer when I was stuck but when they checked it out it started, and they found nothing wrong. There was nothing that they were willing to do that they thought would solve the problem, in a realistic monetary way except to get rid of the car and let it be someonelse's problem.

There is fuel, the engine cranks properly but it seems as there is no ignition. I had a car that did this before but it was a 3500S Rover and the problem was never found except when I was ready to sell it and discovered that the distributor primary wire was loose from the day I drove it out of the dealership. Fixed it and made the new owner a very happy guy. Oh, for the simpler days!

This is driving me a little crazy and I know that there is a solution to the problem. But, for the moment, I'm stuck.

Has anyone out there in the ether experienced this problem? By the way, it's a 2.7T.
