Default 2004 a6 3.0

Hello I just purchased a used A6 and I want to change the oil but im wondering if I should take to a dealer and get it serviced or would they end up just changing the oil like I could by myself. Anyone got an answer for me?

Thankyou
Jason

You can do it yourself really easily. Just read the car manual to know how much oil to put in. I use Mobil1 Full Synthetic 5w-40 for my 3.0 (A4, 6-speed) and it works great.

Default How do I reset the service light after I change the oil?

Im going to change the oil myself but how do I make the service light go off after I do that? Its not on all the time but just when I start the car and put in gear it says service and then goes off. Im at 59,600 miles and i believe that its just coming on to let me know its time for service. So besides changing the oil what else would the dealer do if I took it in?

Here is how:

**Button (1) is the wrench looking button, and button (2) is the one that reads 0.0**

Display remaining distance:

With the ignition on, briefly push button (1) to display the distance remaining until the next service is due. You can perform a function test with the engine in idle or when the vehicle has reached a peed of 3mph.

The remaining distance will be updated every 310 miles

If there is a priority 1 malfunction (and red symbol), you will not be able to display the distance remaining.
If service is needed soon, "SERVICE IN X,XXX MLS" will appear, or if service is now due, "SERVICE" will appear. The display will switch back to the normal display after about 5 seconds

Resetting the interval display

The Service Department at your authorized Audi Dealer will reset the display after performing the required service.

*Read!!*
If the service is not performed by your authorized Audi Dealer, the display must be reset as follows:

1) Turn off the ignition

2) Turn on the ignition again while holding the button (1) down. "SERVICE" will appear in the display.

3) Press the button (2) until the "SERVICE" text is cleared. This display should now show the next service event.

Picture, and remember:
Button (1) is the wrench looking button, and button (2) is the one that reads 0.0

Default Its not working

Hey I tried what you said but I think we might be talking about two different years of the A6. I was looking at the pic you provided and my fuel gauge is up top, not at the bottom and I have never seen the wrench light or anything like that. I have the clock button on the left and the trip button on the right. The service light still comes on when I start it and then goes away after I put in gear. Do you think I might just need the computer to hook up to it? Its a 2004 A6 3.0 Quattro if that makes a difference.

Thanks
Jason

We do have different years, heck even different cars. I have an A4 3.0, you have an A6 3.0, there is a difference. I just didn't think that there was a difference. But there is, so I'll do my research and find you a solution

Default Thankyou

Hey I really appreciate that, I have been trying to find it but I cant! Man I love this car though. How long have you had yours and is this your first Audi? Its my first, I always wanted a German car and I couldn't decide what I wanted, either a BMW or an Audi. Not to mention im in the military right now and didn't think I could ever afford a nice one. Low and behold though I found a guy getting a divorce and he sold it to me very very cheap. Its an 04 with only 59,600 and I got it for 10,975. I just detailed it and i love it!! Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

What branch are you in?

Also, I'm 17, and I have owned 2 Audi's. My first one was totaled because of some dumb lady who didn't know how to drive in snow (and she had front wheel drive which sucked). I went from a 99.5 Audi A4 30v 2.8L V6 quattro 5-speed manual to a 2002 Audi A4 3.0L quattro 6-speed manual.

Anyways enough about me, here is what I dug up:

Turn off the ignition
Press and hold the button on the left side of the display while turning the ignition on
Service OIL will be displayed
Pull out the button on the right side of the display until the service prompt is cleared
The display should now read ---

If the above procedure does not work, outlined below is an alternative procedure:
With the ignition off, push the right button
Turn the ignition on and then pull the left button

Hmmm, I dont know why but it's not working. I think Ill just have to take it in to a service place and have them reset it. Thankyou though for your help. If you come across anything else feel free to let me know.
