My son has a 1998 A6 Avant w/ auto transmission. Someone drained the transmission fluid and he drove the car approximately 25 miles before he noticed that the transmission was acting up. Now when he drives the car the transmission will occasionally stop shifting after it reaches second gear. If he stops the car and turns it off and recranks it, the transmission works fine. Could this be an electrical problem or is the transmission shot? I have driven the car and the transmission shifts fine and makes no noise. it just locks up in second gear and requires the shutting off and restarting to clear it. He is a full time student and is so afraid that he is going to have to buy another car now. Any advice/info/insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
