Post B5 A4 1.8t transmisson problem solved !

1999 1.8t auto tip quattro, i just bought this car from my brothers girlfriend do to it having transmisson problems. she spent a bunch of money trying to get it fixed but after Sunset Audi of portland told her $ 6000 for a new transmisson she sold it for a steal to me.

Spending any free time looking over the motor i was convinced that maybe the dealer was right and a new transmisson was required. . . . .

Wrong. I started checking all wires and and then the vaccuum hoses. THE CHECK VALVE off the air box was melted. I ordered a new valve plugged it in and BAM the transmisson shifting problems FIXED. $15 < $6000.

How does a repair shop and the dealer miss this?????

Check all the small stuff that you can. If any one has any questions let me know.

I came into the audi game about 3 months ago (switched from 740 TURBO volvo and sold my motorcycle just so i could buy this "bad transmisson audi". now this B5 A4 1.8t is my pride and joy. And ONE sweet mountain rider

what kind of problems was the trans having? And where is this valve? I bought my first 2000 1.8t auto and it had a new tranmission installed by dealer at 72k and it now has 96k. I just bought it and im used the the 6 cylinder i had before and 260hp. Im not sure if its just me and the 4 cylinder and turbo or the fast that auto has that whole shift thing with the pedal.
