Default Hey guys, thinking of geting audi, which one????

Hey everyone, im a newbie here just got rigestred. And here is a story.... I am a proud owner of 2003 svt cobra and i love american muscle cars. I got my cobra up to 500rwhp and 11.9@121 at the quater mile. Its a very fast car, i took down lots of moded EVOs,STIs, Vettes, andbunch ofothers go fast cars.Love it to death.... but have to sell it for now. Im geting new house so extra cash comes very handy. So i started looking in to something more of a daily car all year long. Luxury, 4 door, attractive exterior, some what sporty and for my budget. Came up withaudi. Safe, comfy and got some good looks. Now here is a question....which one???????? Plesae help me out here.
Here is the things im looking for:
First of all im on the budget and it set for no more than $10k. Defenetly looking for quatro set up because its snows here in MN, dont whant to have tobig of a car so no A8's, and my bigest concern is the engine...... 1.8t or 2.6 or 2.6biturbo or 4.2. I dont know. Car will be used as a daily beater, but i do whant some power there and good response to minor mods (i will add some mods to make power grater but nothing to crazy). I think turbo engine will respond to mods the best but in the same time i wont go to crazy so maybe just v6 or v8?
So something in year 1998-2001 i gues. If i will find S4 under $10k i think its a good deal butwill it last me? and if not whats better a4 or a6?
Thanks for any input guys!

welcome. You apparently have done a lot of research and that really cool. here's what I can say. You probably will want a 1.8t for your engine (most modable) and you'll probably want the A4 instead of the A6 unless you need the extra room.

The V6 in your price range will most likely be a 30v V6 which makes 190HP and has a little room to upgrade but not much unless you spend about 5k. Personally I'd be warry of any S4 in the 10k range. you would have to check it out and make sure everything is right on the car but the S4 would be the ultimate option.

Hope this helps a bit.

Even tho he's from Ohio, ^^^ is pretty much correct about the chioces/options in your stated price-range. $ for $, teh 1.8T is where you'll get the biggest HP gains for teh smallest $$$. My personal choice would be any B6 S4, or newer, and you can make stoopit power with tey B5's, but they're both gonna run ya much more than 10-large, for anything NOT wrecked or slavage.

thanks guys. I did some more research and found out couple more things. I think now my choices narowed to two vihicles, S4 or A6 with 4.2 V8. I whould prefer an A6 to a simple fact that i dond need a speed demon or lots of power. For now im looking more of a luxury, presentable car with some *****, less issues and good drivability through out the whole year. I do like S4 as a sport car but its not enough for me. Within next year im planing to get my weekend warior which is probably going to be '04 turbo cobra or C6 ZO6. Those cars make most power and build for speed and look good.
So sinse i will be geting all ***** out sport car, im looking for something in a different class now. And S4 is to close to a sport car.
How much power do 4.2 has stock hp and tq? Whats the comon problems with them and how reliable are they with high milage? They come as an manual and does trany got any issues with time? How nuch power will it make with bassic bolt ons (exhaust. intake, thotle body, tune, etc....)?
Thanks guys!

A stock A6 4.2, in your price range (gonna be tough for $10K) is 300 hp @ 295 ft-lb. There's not a lot in the area of performance mods. Mine is in the shop now for a spoiler springs, swaybars and I may get it chiped (haven't decided yet). 4.2's are nice. The 2.7T seems "quicker" to me but... I'm not really sure. There's a lot more that can be done with the 2.7 in the area of performance mods

I forgot to add that the 4.2 has a "wide" body (wider fenders). I wish that I could get the wide body with the 2.7.

yeah, i noticed that 4.2 gota bit better body lines and interior seems more detailed. So if i do headers, mid pipe and cat back + full exhaust and a chip with a tune where im going to be powerwise at the wheels? I heard that 2.6 biturbo is less reliable than 4.2.... is that true? I found couple of '00-01 A6 4.2 or 2.6 biturbo for around $10k..... they got **** load of miles (85k- 140k) but i think drivetrain should be fine to about 200k miles?
