Im New!!! I need to know stuff!
hey all im new to the whole audi scene and basically the whole car scene too. Right now i am selling my 99 jeep wrangler to get an audi cause i always like german cars and just had something for audi's.... Ya so im not a big car guy though but all my friends are and they know alot about cars they have there own car clubs and everything and i always wanted a car so i could go riding with them.... first of all im sick of my jeep i was guna make it into like a 4x4 machine and lift it and stuff but decided not too... i have had so many problems since i have gotten it its a 4.0 v6 and it feels like i get 10 miles to the gallon.. and i already had to replace and axle, power steering and bumpers , it has caused me headaches and time with out a ride.. and so i want to get rid of this thing and get and audi a4...
Alright well my friend told me 2 ask u guys alot of stuff so i get some knowledge about these cars..... when i get it, i want to start making it in a true performing car and i see alot of potential in these cars... Im looking for the turbo 1.8t one first cause i love turbos and second i saw in FAQ that the 1.8t's could have alot more down than the v6's could performence wise.... and i wont be to shy on money since i graduate at the end of the month and start working long hours right away so i will have the money to do stuff to the car when i get it...
First things first i know the 1.8t's dont have crazy horsepower like 155hp and 150torque if im correct... and i want to atleast get my car between the 200-250hp marks on stock turbo if possiable, and that i would be happy with. Alright some simple questions are wat is the stock boost psi on the 1.8t's between the years 1995-1999? actually thats all really besides is there any danger about these cars or big repairs i mean that i have to watch out for like any bad problems?
For performence i first wanted to get a
-3in custom turbo back exhaust like from borla but heard flowmaster sounded good on german cars
- Boost controller depending on if i can even turn up the psi on the stock turbo with out blowing it up, also how much boost psi wise can the stock turbos hold?
- Turbo timer
- Front Mount Intercooler w/hard pipes
- Lowering Springs
- Short throw shifter (yes i am getting a manual! hell no i will not get an automatic!)
- and probably some simple body stuff such as front lip, eyelids ect....
sooo that is about it i hope to hear from all u guys and to have u guys help me out on my questions and would appreciate any help at all! i hope that getting and audi will be alot of fun....

Hey man, first to get the hp you want your gunna need a new turbo if your talking whp if your talking chp all you need is a chip and that will change the ecu to be boosting about 18psi instead of the stock 7psi or so, you don’t want to mbc the car without adding fuel so a chip is your best bet, and your not guna blow the motor with out alot of mods, the stock internals can hold 26psi easy and have held 40 on accidental occasions, lol but if you want more power all it takes is about 1500 for a k04 set up or 3400 for some massive power from a gt2871rs and I wouldn’t do a 3' exhaust unless you plan to run a bt because its just not necessary, with a k03(stock) or K04 2.5 or 2.75' is a good exhaust diameter...... oh and you should really look for a 99.5, newer body style with the better motor set up ( NDBW) the 1.8t's are notorious for sludge so you need to run synthetic motor oil and make sure the previous owner took good care of it or you might have issues, also make sure the T belt has been done if the car has over 65k miles.... as far as body goes DONT GET EYELIDS they look gay as hell audi's IMO you should just get a nice RS4 or S4 front sides and rear.... and if you drop it H&R springs with bielstien struts is a great combo.... as far as wheels B5's look best with 18's not 19's trust me, lol
Welcom to the forums. You will want to use the search function to help you find many threads that cover all of your questions. "Search" is at the top of the page.
I remember reading some threads on turbo timers and most people thought that they are not necessary unless you drive your car to the absolute limit of performance and then shut it down in your driveway. Most people dont drive like that, so the turbo has time to cool before you shut the car down, so the timer is overkill.
I don't like eyelids either, but to each his own. If you want to put in halos and eyelids, then go for it. Just don't slap on a fooking wing.
