Default New to forums and Audi's

First of all let me say hi to all of you.

I recently bought my audi for about £1500, then had to spend £700 to fix the mid box on the exhaust, a new cat, 2 new rear tyres, rear pads and disks and to top it all off i had to give it its customary 10k service for another £120.

For a car thats done 140k i was kind of expecting it.

But i have noticed other faults with the car that i am getting worried about.

1) a) The heating system (Not A/C) seems to blow cold but no heat comes from it. When the temprature dial is turned there is an audible change in the sound that comes from the vents but no heat at all.
b) This may be connected to the above but the outside temperature display seems to be stuck on 49 F. Does this indicator normally light up or something or am i only allowed to see it during daylight hours, as its too faint to see at night.

2) There is a button on the drivers door that (i assume) unlocks the doors, however this button when pressed does nothing. I have checked all of the fuses and all are ok. Is there a relay hidden somewhere that controls this button?

3) My Oil Indicator light has just started coming on when engine running over 2000 revs. According to the manual this is not an oil level light but an oil pressure warning. Is this an accurate indicator? and what is involved in checking the oil pressure? i have noticed a few other people have had similar problems with this indicator but do not have an answer.

If you are considering maintaining the car yourself, look into a set of Bentley brand manuals for the car (its what your dealer has).

Problem 1. there should be a vacuum operated valve in your heater inlet hose that is malfunctioning. Easy to replace. Temp sensor is a problem, on my car it was mounted on the radiator support near the headlights. Once you find it, also easy to replace.

Problem 2. Don't know your specific model, so I'm not sure what you're refering to. How do you get out of your car if you can't unlock it?

Problem 3. Have your pressure checked with a guage or replace your sensor. There is a pressure regulator that is associated with your oil pump, but I am not aware of problems with these. Audi makes a terrific automobile, but they try to save money on electronics, I think. My daughters '89 100 just died this weekend (3rd transmission) and I have recommended creamation. Her car has had your problems 1 and 3 for 18 months and I have lost interest in trying to keep it running. The upside is that it probably reached 200K miles (odometer quit at 87K) and kept going for a year after I RECOMMENDED THAT THEY JUST PUT GAS IN IT AND RUN THE GUTS OUT OF IT!

There is a group of old timers and mechanically gifted people on the web at a site called the "quattro list". go there and see if you can get specific help.

Good Luck!
