New member New owner!
Hi everyone! I just get an 97' A4 1,8T the car it;s in very good conditions and has only 74k miles, there was only one thing not working properly (center locking) but I already fixit!. I would like to have a little more power at lo rpm, My dad has an '89 maxima 3.0 V6 and his car is really faster than mine the first shift, obviusly when we pass the 60 mph I beat him hard! b ut I want it to be more fast at lauch. Another thing that I don't think that is working good is mi auto tranny, sometimes it fails shifting, I wanna change the oil and see what happend. If you have any advice for me they will be more than welcome. Sorry about my english Im trying to improve it.

welcome to the forums. ya stock a4's have little power in the low end. get a chip, dv, and testpipe (set you back about 600 bucks but net you roughly 70 ponies and 100 ft lbs of torque) and you will blow that maxima away

Tkanks Chaos, and forgive my ignorance, Im from argentina and my English is not good, can you tell me what exactly is a DV and a testpipe? I'll apreciate. Im fixing everithing I can, as the center locking, oil change, cd player, and this week end I'm gonna empty the catalitic converter I think that is cloge and that is affectin the turbo. Thanks Ale

DV is diverter valve(also called a bypass valve). it releases boost when you let off the throttle or shift gears so your turbo doesn't get damaged. its what makes that "pssshh" sound.if you get a new chip you will be holding 15-17psi and spiking around 20-21 psi and the stock dv cant handle it. until you chip it tho you dont need to change the dv. and a test pipe replaces the catalytic converter. the cats on these cars are very restrictive so getting a test pipe adds around 20 hp and tq. emptying the cat will help if you dont wana buy a test pipe but they're only like $130. they are illegal tho (but so is emptying the cat) so if you guys have emissions you wont pass.
oh and if you do end up just emptying the cat have fun getting the cat outa the car. the bolts where it connects to the downpipe are a huge pain in the *** to get off.

Hey thanks for the advice, I already empty the cat, it toke me all day, but I did a nice job, firt take the cat out (may be the hardest step) then with a plasma cutter I opened a nice window on one side of the cat, take the stone out of it, and mig weld the cat, It looks great! the I put all the stuff together and I can notice some changes it goes from 80 mph to 120 very fast, much faster than before. but Im still thinking on the ecu chip and the dv. Thanks Again. Ale
