Default New Member Saying Hi!

Hey everyone,

I will be heading off to Western Mchigan University next year (with one class at Michigan State University on Thursdays). I don't actually have an Audi yet, but I plan on purchasing one as my first "real car".

Going through high school i have acquired 2 cars, a 1981 mustang with a 3.3L and a 3 speed automatic transmission. When I got tired of getting 16 miles a gallon, I got my second car, a 1992 Dodge Shadow ES with a 3.0L engine and the automatic transmission. Both have served me well, but now that I will be commuting halfway across the state each week for a college class, I need a car that wll be more reliable (Both cars have 80-95K miles).

So when I save up 5,000 dollars for a down payment, my parents are willing to co-sign a 15,000 dollar loan for me so that I can get a reliable car with under 50K miles that will last me a long time. Now just so i dont sound like some stuck up rich kid, I will be hopefully gettin a full ride or close to it through a college scholarship with the AFROTC, which will free up some cash (plu my working money) to mae payments.

The main cars that I am looking to get are A4 Cabriolets, or TT roadsters. However, I don't know my audis too well, I've been mostly a domestic shopper, but now with a larger budget i can expand my horizons. Hope to make some friends and learn some stuff here in the coming months!

Tim

welcome to the forums. So cabriolet or TT?? I would do TT if you are fairly average size(height) and if you are looking for speed. Cabriolet is more of a cruise, however can look amazing when modded. Have you considered looking at the Audi S4's. A kid your age has to be interested in one.

I love the way that the S4's look, but thy are a little bit out the top end of my budget. I was looking to have a few thousand left for maintenence or any small repair that may come my way. I know Audi's are reliable cars, contrary to wat my friends tell me, but I lso know they are not cheap to maintain.

I would love to be able to work on my own car for the small things, but my goodness the engines on the Audi's look like a whole other world. The only engine I have learned to tinker in is my mustang's and engines hve come a looooong way since the early 80's...

My budget will be the low twentie thousands, with a few thousand left over for maintanence and repairs. So from looking around thusfar a lower mile TT or A4 looks the most within reach. Still a while off, but I have already found a ton of information on this site. And, as both of my cars have been solid roof cars without even a sunroof, I am really looking to go convertible.

Also the car is somewhat restricted... I will have to drive through western michigan winters, so rear wheel drive cars are somewhat out of the picture, so the only other brands I'm considering are a G6 convertible or a sebring. Wasn't ever a big fan on Toyota. Definitely hoping for an audi because of the quattro all wheel drive, and the avalibility of a manual transmission. Also the Audi's look like a lot more fun to drive...

check out my A4 i just got last month, this would be a perfect package for you. Black with black leather interior, manual, quattro, 60.000miles, sport and cold weather package. Chip it and add a KO4 turbo and u got a s4. It drives like an s4 too. I bought mine for 10K with low mileage , look around, again this is the package for YOU! check my car out at: http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150848

That sounds exactly like the deal I am looking for. I hope I'll be able to find one. I am in no rush to buy by any means, so I can wait around and figure out typical prices so that when it comes time to buy I will be relatively well educated. And, by next year the cars that arecost 20 grand now, will costcloser to 17,000 - 18,000 dollars... It seems like most of the newer A4's are equipped with the CVT transmission, it would be amazing to find one with a manual.
