New to the site - 1999.5 A4 1.8t
Hello and Thank You for all the help I see posted. My name is Mike and I just bought my first Audi. It's a 99.5 A4 1.8t I'm told and I got it off craigslist. Previous owner says it sat since about 2012 and that it has a vacuum leak and a few other issues. Body was rust free (huge for MN). It starts but will stall out between 1500-2000 rpms. From what I read so far, likely a vacuum leak. Scanned the codes and throttle body control malfunction came up. I will start with new vacuum lines and go from there. It has a slow drain on the battery from some interesting wiring work with the central locking module in the trunk, but that is phase two. Sunroof is stuck open a little, seat is ripped, mirror is off windshield, wiper motor is not working.... lots to tend to.
Thanks again, I will continue to search and read until I get stuck, then post for help.

Quick update on the car... first a big thank you to all who host and post. I have found a great deal of needed info on this forum.

Replaced the vacuum lines with no impact, replaced the throttle body and it roared to life. Wiper transmission was frozen, really seized bad, so I replaced it and that was fixed. Did an oil change, plugs, air filter, pads, rotors, three wheel bearing so far and figured out the cable that attached to the sunroof is snapped.
Realized the drivers door would not lock, took off the door panel and found duct tape and wire... I disconnected the vacuum line and I can manually lock the door. The connection from the door actuator to the key cylinder (tape and wire) is broken, so I will be looking into that. The central locking pump in the trunk is not the right one for the car, PO got it off ebay, tossed the original correct one and now its my problem. I hear it pumping, so I think the vacuum lines are plugged or something fishy there, summer project.
I have been driving it around and it drives very nice. I will be doing timing belt, water pump and possible valve cover gaskets. I noticed some oil around the spark plugs.
Long story short, car is running well, fun to drive and while I have more into it than I planned, I am very happy with it. Once the timing belt and such is done, looking to do a light tune, stage one. It already has a test pipe, so a chip, better downpipe and DV I suppose.
Thanks again.
