Unhappy Problem with my 01 A6

Hello,

I have a 2001 A6 2.7T I changed the trans on it with the trans computer to an 2004 model, 4 months later my engine broke and it had to be replaced, after engine replacement the mechanic told me that the trans is bad, and it is not shifting right it starts at 3rd gear, (My A6 is automatic) so he said that we have to rebuild it and it was rebuilt but again with the same problem it is still starting in 3rd, and the trans shop said that the trans had some bad clutches or whatever and it was fixed, and they dont have anything to do with any trans computer issues, therefore we had to reprogram at the dealer but the dealer says that the computer is not accepting the code. so we thought that the computer is and we got another one, but still does the same thing, anybody have an idea on what is going on, the car is in repair for the last 2 years and am so frustrated. I need help. Please anyone???? Thanks

Wilkommen to the forums

sounds like your car has the dreaded "limp mode". Due to all the work that has been done to it I suspect it could be a multitude of possible problems. with a new engine, a twice (?) rebuilt transmission...

you first step would be to scan for codes. you will need a VAGCom type, Audi specific scanner to make sure you are getting all the TCM codes. It may (or may not) give us a clearer picture as to what is going on. Also you should probably repost your question in the A6 section. There is not as much traffic here in the "New Member Welcome Area"

good luck
