Default Thinking about going from Japanese to German

Hey everyone, I currently have a 2002 Acura RSX but am looking to upgrade to a 2004 S4.

Wilkommen to the forums!

be sure to spend some time lurking around the sub-forums. Do some research on the engine. you really want to be sure you aren't going to inherit someone else's problems or failed project car. can be common on the S4.

good luck

have fun

And definitely either be good with a wrench or know someone who is. S4 is a great car but can be problematic and it'll kill you in labor if you're paying a dealer.

From what I have been told, the B6 S4's propensity for cam chain tensioner failure (which runs a grand in parts and requires an engine pull) was fixed, and can be avoided by buying a car with a build date of 10/04 or later. They also suffer flywheel fragmentation sometimes, necessitating a tranny pull and an $1800 clutch and flywheel setup.

Just so you're aware of the two big potential failures that I've heard of...

Just upgrade the clutch to at least a stage 2 clutch and problem solved.
