upgrading my 1997 Audi A4 1.8T
Hello everyone,
As you guys may have noticed, I am new to the audi forum. I got my audi A4 about 10 months ago, but never cared to upgrade anything until i lost some races against the VTEC family this weekend. Those loses did it for me....I am coming after those VTECS next summer[:@]. However, i'm not sure what i can do to my car to make it extremely fast. I have a 1997 A4 1.8T with an AUTOMATIC transmission. All the aftermarket stuff that i have on the car right now is a body kit, a blow-off valve, and a magnaflow exhaust system (not sure if it's full exhaust). Would u guys please help me in figuring out what i can do to the car during the winter to get it ready for racing next summer? Thanks a lot. I look forward to keeping in touch with you guys in the future.

welcome to the forums, audi_speed97. first off, a blow off valve is a very bad idea for audis. you need to get a diverter valve back on there asap unless you want to ruin your o2 sensors and cats....you can read about the 'closed-loop turbo system' in our 'general tech' forum. the next mod on your list should definitely be an ECU chip. if you want to eventually go with a turbo upgrade, i would recommend getting a GIAC chip from a local dealer. they cost approx 500 bucks and will give you about 50HP and 80ftlbs of torque. if you have a tiptronic you can also get a tip chip from giac that reduces your shift time from 1 second to .2 seconds. post a question in the A4 forum and you'll get a lot of responses.
Thanks for the reply, bentframe. Now, I've heard about the APR chip. Which one do you think is better? Also, do you think my automatic tranny will be able to handle a turbo upgrade?
