Question Upgrading a 97 Audi A4 2.8Q

Hi,

I am new to this forum so hopefully I can find my answers. I recently bought a 1997 Audi a4 2.8q 5spd. I have searched and searched for upgradeable parts for my new car but have had no luck what so ever.

These are to list of modifications I want to do as far as performance.

Exhaust
Intake
maybe a new computer chip

I'm not looking to make a street demon just something that runs and sounds better.

I guess all I'm asking is if I can be provided links to some possible upgrades for my car model.

I appreciate the help and please no hating, I am new.

You are having trouble finding results because their basically are none...On that note, you can get the Magnaflow 14862 exhaust. This is what I have and it sounds great...search a4 magnaflow on youtube and you'll hear several examples. If I'm not mistaken, the 97 is the 12V so there basically is no chip for your car...or a chip worth anything that is. I know the 30V 2.8's can benefit from 15-25 hp with the speedtuning chip, but not the 12V. I'm sure a K&N Intake would help a bit on the sound. If you're like me, just spend your time and money on asthetics of the vehicle rather than performance. I would suggest:

1 piece Valeo Euro headlights
HID kit
s4 or upgraded front bumper
rims
lowering springs
lip spoiler
tint

that would get things started...but that's just my $.02

Hello, welcome to AF, and prepare to be flamed for making the ultimate AF n00b mistake: "I just bought a 1996/1997 A4 2.8 - why can't I find anything that will make it fast when I search teh interwebz?"

Fact is, you are now the proud new owner of a more-or-less un-moddable engine - the Audi 12 valve 2.8L V6. There are no chips available for it, because it uses a Hitachi ECU which cannot be reprogrammed. There are no turbo kits. There are no pre-fabbed exhaust kits. There really are no bolt-on performance upgrades of any kind available for this engine. If you want to get any power out of it, you'll need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars, and when you're finished you'll still get your *** handed to you by a well-modded 1.8T that cost less than half what you spent to get there.

When Micah mentions the Magnaflow 14862 exhaust, that is not a full exhaust - it's a muffler. You can have an aftermarket muffler of your choosing and some custom exhaust piping made up at your local exhaust shop for less than $500, but don't expect any performance gains. K&N makes a CAI kit that fits, but just like the exhaust, the only thing you'll really gain is a louder engine.

My advice? Same as above - make it look good and handle well, don't expect any speed - but with regular oil changes, expect to roll over 250k on the odometer before it bites the dust

Yeah anything your going to do to it engine or exhaust wise will be way cheaper if you do it yourself. Exhausts in general are cheaper if you go custom rather than pre made. The exhaust and intake can be dont at an exhaust shop. The intake can be done with just some regular old exhaust tubing and a cone filter, or whatever filter you prefer. You will get the same effect for less than half the price. As said above your better of making the car look better cosmetically than making it more powerful.
