Default 2.7T - turbo upgrade - how much can it take

Looking into A6 (maybe S4) with the 2.7T 6spd manual with the goal to upgrade the turbos.

The AEB engine in our 1.8T is known to take quite a bit (T3s, 2871 and even bigger).

Where are the reasonable (daily driver, not killing other stock components (maybe clutch upgrade) limits for the 2.7T (turbo and HP/Torque), aside that I heard from numerous sources that it is a bitch to work on the 2.7T, in the A6 and certainly in the S4.

What turbos are on the RS4? I would assume for a low volume car that they did NOT change the internals? So that should be a 'safe' performance levels, or?

The RS4 has K04's as well, but something is larger.

The 2.7t can handle up to 500whp before needed rods. Basically the same whp per cylinder as the 1.8t.

There are many different K04 versions for the 2.7, everything from stock K04's to hybrid K04'. Then you get into the larger setups like the Tial's and twin GT's.

Yes the S4 is a bitch to work on, to do any work that has to do with the engine you have to pretty much drop it out of the engine bay and that includes changing the turbos.

How about lifting out (I don't have a lift, but hoist)?

Default 2.7t turbo upgrade

Im on the same boat. Just picked up an A6 2.7t AT & im wondering where should i start in upgrading to k04's? which kit is MOST efficient & what else do i need to upgrade to keep up with the added boost?

So far I have found the APR & the AWE kit. Both very impressive but is there any other good kits out there?

& also, are all S4 2.7t k04 turbo kits compatible with the A6 2.7t? I would think so since its the same engine but i could be wrong....

sorry for the multiple questions but please educate me about whats sitting in my driveway=)

I have recently changed the standard KO3's for KO4's without removing the engine, will never do that again. I've got A LOT MORE POWER, but i think i also have boost leak, from 3500 RPM and up i have no power. One thing you should change too is the turbo inlet pipes, i think from RS4 will fit, on KO4 inlet is larger than KO3.

Well if any 2.7t owners are interested I am able to offer a great deal on a set of ARD turbo inlet pipes, same ones that used to be sold by JHM and Vast.
