If you're referring to "cranking the wastegate" its not a good idea. A chip is the best mod you can get for your car

Default Turbo issues

Seems a lot of you are all having the same problems I've just had with my Audi TT mine is speed chipped and now 230 bhp the yellow emissions light came on on the dash board but because i spent 3 years at college in mechanics had to break down the problem stuck it on diagnostics tester at my college where i did my course and it came up with N75 solenoid valve (You will find this just above the spark plugs its a 3 way adapter that links up the air to fuel ratio to ur turbo has the pipes coming off it that might need changing its a simple 5 minute job to do with some pliers for the pipe clips but a costly £62 for the solenoid valve from euro parts. checked spark plugs as these often need replacing with it being a sports car and maybe check the coil pack as that could be a big cause of the issue I've replace the spark plugs and coil and n75 valve and everything is now running smoothly again as before that the car was running like a bag of s**t and wasn't idling at 1000 rpm was bouncing around all over the place and diagnostic tester showed that it was mis-firing on all cylinders due to the n75 valve not being able to do its job due to malfunction.

i hope this helps
