Default Heads up on turbo clocking

I recently bought a turbocharger for my Passat, and was told it was ready to bolt in to the car with no modification. My shop tried to install it, but it was clocked incorrectly and was pinching the oil supply line and contacting the cat. They ended up having to pull the turbo and reclock it, with me getting the bill for the extra time it took. So the point of this post is - always check the turbo clocking against the old turbo before attempting to install it.......

Wow, you are sad. Did the turbo require you to change anything..... NO! They order the turbos and most times dont even carry the turbos in stock (most retailers do this) and the manufacture sends it to you. You being had from a shop should have no effect on the place you bought a turbo. Stopping bitching about the wrong people and take responsibilty for yourself being played. Clocking a turbo takes all of 5-10mins tops. Next time dont be an idiot.

The clocking was off by about an inch, which led the shop to think it was clocked correctly, so they installed it before they found out it had to be clocked. I was told it was fit for the car, meaning it would just bolt up. So the extra labor occurred as a result. I posted this so others wouldn't have the same trouble.

As to your comments, Cincy TT, I say you're the idiot.

im an idoit because you got taken by the shop?

Again, clocking a turbo takes all of 5-10mins and most times doesnt have to even be taken off the car. Again, you shouldnt bitch about a place that retails the turbo since they DO NOT TOUCH THE TURBO. They just take orders and either send it out or relay the order and the factory and theysend it out. So AGAIN, your complaining about the wrong company. Plus if it wasnt installed before, its more than likely going to be off by a .5" or so. Its the nature of the beast.... deal with it.

Cincy,

You may well have a point here, but the confusion come from the understanding that the turbo was already set up for the Passat, which was assumed to include the clocking. If 90% of shops would have caught the incorrect clocking, then my shop made the mistake. If that's the case, then I'll delete my dissatisfaction with turbochargerpros.

It really was the shops mistake. I would take it up with them about reimbersing some of your money back for their mistake. If they are a decent shop, they should fess up to that and atleast try to make it right.
