Default Preserving the lives of my Turbos

Hey guys, first let me say I looked around on the forums and was able to get some good tips on extending my turbos lives by letting the car idle before turning it off, warming it up properly etc. What I'm still wondering is are there any mods I can do to help keep the turbos running strong in my 2001 (b5) s4?

It's a 2001 Audi s4 with tiptronic transmission, 130,000 miles 100% stock and I plan on doing the GIAC ecu upgrade sometime in the near future. I'm going to college next year so I won't be driving the car everyday, but I want it to last me through college as it is my only means of transportation. One thing I've heard about upgrading the ecu is that it has the tendency to cause wear on the turbos, so if there is anything I can do to prevent this I would like to do it. The less expensive the better but I understand I can't skimp too much if I want my car to work properly. Any insight you all can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Your turbo is water cooled so it doesnt need more than a few seconds to cool. The only way else to preserve the turbos is not to strain them by trying to run them out of their efficiency range with to much psi. Your turbos are already well used and they could take another 50k of abuse or you could chip it and they may just take a dump on you, ya never know with that many miles on the car and what the org owner did with it

New to the Audi world, but speaking from a bit of experience here - if you want parts to last, don't strain them (IE, don't chip it till you can afford to do major overhauls - just in case)

The K03's on a S4 are oil cooled.. let them cool. You can do a few things.
1. Buy an oil cooler try this http://vastperformance.com/shop/inde...2be67be31c4111

2. Buy a turbo timer (it does the same thing as letting it idle for a while).

3. like Cincy said, make sure your new tune doesn't push the turbo's too hard.

4. Change your oil every 3,000 and use Mobile 1 or royal purple 5/30 or 10/30

Do all those things and they will last as long as they can. Realize that they will most likely go with in 30,000- 50,000 miles if not sooner so you might want to start saving up. If you post about things like this on the S line chapter in this forum you will probably have more input.
I hope this helps
