Hi,

How much should be the cost to replace bank 2 sensor on C5 - A6 (3.0)? I am in Scotch Plains and a newly opened local shop near me claims to work on BMW/Audi/Merc has quoted me $165 for part but says labor is around 250 as it is a big deal to change it. I think labor cost is steep. I also need rear break pads and his quote is $105 for labor and $55 part OEM pads.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

o2 sensors run about $100-$150 for the part, depending on what kind and which sensor. $165 is on the high side, but not what I would consider exhorbitant. Pre-cat sensors are a real PITA to get to. it isn't exactly technically difficult, it is just a lot of labor, cursing, throwing tools...that kind of thing. post cat sensors are significantly easier. based on the labor quote I'm guessing pre-cat. again a little on the high side but if you are unwilling or unable to DIY, doesn't seem outside the range.

brake job quote seems pretty spot on IMO

biggest drawback to being an Audi (merc, bimmer) owner is having to pay labor rates to get a "specialist".

the good news is, if you are willing to get your hands dirty, aren't afraid to break something, and can turn a wrench, this (and other forums) can be a great place to turn for instructions/advice
