Go to YouTube and search "A6 C5 exhaust drive by". There are several people who have removed the mufflers and replaced them with Magnaflow 35174 resonators. Nice deep sound, little or no drone at steady speeds according to them. I plan on making the conversion on my 4.2 in the next few weeks.
Best price I have found on the resonators are at Jeg's at $97 each. My local muffler shop that does custom work said they'd make the swap for $125.

Did the muffler delete my self loved it..little drone at lower rpms, great sound at higher rpms without the constrictive muffler the tranny actually goes thru the gears a lot faster. So It feels and sounds faster.best free mod yet..I had two glass packs put on (2.5 in/out)with 3.5 res tips.that little drone became really loud and almost unbearable between 1300-2200rpms. Muffler delete by itself Sounds 100% better.I'm gonna delete glass packs and run only res tips for now...Next exhaust mod is gonna be ---B6-7 Audi S4 4.2 stock rear mufflers.

Default C5 A64.2 muffler delete

Did the muffler delete my self, great sound very toned and very little drone in the lower rpm ranges sounds great in higher rpm ranges.put glass packs on and the drone is very loud & will be removing them (glass packs) and running only res tips.best free mod so far. This is how a V8 should sound..

I can help you out with the Vag Com if you are ever in MA. Those engines had alot of fabric vacuum lines that tended to shrink and break over time. Take the engine cover off and take a quick look for any worn, frayed vacuum hose. Sometimes a mass air meter goes bad as well causing these codes but not as often.
I used to have a 2000 A8L. It was a great car.....wished I kept it but it did take forever to clean/detail.
