Sounds like you looked at an ad for a car with a Tiptronic transmission and the numbnut selling it thinks that because you can tell the Tip when to shift, that means it is a manual, and so they listed it as having a manual transmission and then pointed out the paddles on the steering wheel.

Flappy-paddles are not possible with a true manual transmission.
