Ask a Police Officer Thread Ver. 2

I've often heard that unless you're wanted for doing something really stupid, if an officer tries to pull you over and you run there is a certain speed above which they can't chase you. Logically, there has to be a point at which the risks of continuing the pursuit outweigh the benefits of catching some guy who was speeding. Is there any truth to this?
*edit* I wanted to add that I'm not going to take this information and start running from the police. I'm simply curious. I spent some time doing MP work during my tenure in the military, so I have a bit of an appreciation and respect for what you folks do.
*edit: again* I thought of another. I was a submariner in the navy, and folks would often ask me which submarine movie was most accurate. The best answer is always "Down Periscope," as it's a perfect depiction of the general attitude and mindset on a submarine. Is "Supertroopers" pretty accurate along the same lines for you guys?

Ihave personally seen many chases in MD onRT50 heading to OC, where the bike was probably ticking around 150 and cops with lights on are still persueing... or one time I was on RT50 heading home(VA) with even with heavier traffic and the bike was riding the white line and cop was still chasing on the shoulder...
The later story there was a girl on the back wearing a tank top and booty shorts, instances like that make medislike somepolice officers as people. That girl had NO idea what was going to happen on this bike ride, she has NO control over the situation, and she is probably dead or limbless because that MD police officer decided to chase them for miles and miles through heavy traffic. Officers like that should have their badge removed.
nota- is there any rules to not follow if your in dangering innocent people by provocing the rider/offender. That girl was innocent, would you act the same way if the girl was your own daughter and you were putting her in harms way. hells no. you would deal with the situation later, get the plate number and show up at the house later in the evening.

Look up Dr. Salvatore J. Culosi, http://justiceforsal.com/, straight from the source, Commonwealth Attorney Robert Horan, Jr. when he elected not to bring involuntary manslaughter charges against Officer Deval V. Bullock or present the facts to a grand jury to make a determination. Forget the warrant that was going to be served for gambling, WHO CARES, Deval Bullock, turned off the safety, put his finger on the trigger, aimed at the mans chest, and pulled the TRIGGER... and still works for Fairfax County POLICE, making 85+ grand a year.
Makes you wonder how much he owed Sal, perhaps he was afraid that Sal was going to say thatBullock was a gambler, and that would have probably made him jobless, but killing a man, and he still has a job.
I believe that I read something like 43 years and not ONE Fairfax County police officer has ever been charged for manslaughter. They also said, thatBullock was tired, worked many hours, and didn't getmuch sleep. If working too many hours is a problem, maybepolice officers in generalshould not be able to have overtime, ifthey "accidently" shoot innocent UNARMED people while at work...

and the cops lack of driving skills can do this such as notahondaowners comrades someone else died i think bringing the toll to 3 dead, all that to stop a guy who kept goin back and forth past a cop flippin him off pullin wheelies to antagonize the cop because someone with a 3500lb weapon had to big of an ego to call anyone or just let it go.

Trust me regaurless of pursuit policy,it's up 2 the individual cop to chase or not. I've been in no chase towns where they chased and blown past cops in supposedly chase happy cities who were smart enough to not even bother. COming from expierence, the decision that is made at the time of the cop seeing whoever it is go by the the time they decide to chase is the soley the cops. The more profesional, expierenced and mellower the cop the less of the chance of a chase. The more egotistical, unexpierenced and brash the cop,the more chance of the cop intiating a chase, never calling it in,and pursuing someone who may not be worth pursuing. You would be surprised just how long a "chase" goes on for after the one being chased is sitting at home listening to the police scanner. Unless its a buick or somethin and the guys got no *****/skills theres a good chance a cop can't keep up. My friends done it repeatedly in a 115hp civic. More expierenced, profesional cops realize this, such as NJ troopers. They let you go by them if your in your car bookin, don't pull out in sight of you, pull out a few seconds after your outta sight then pursue you with lights off, hiding behind traffic so you won't see them sneaking up, until they have your plate, then hit the lights. Sneaky but a hell of a lot safer then tryin to pursue someone who isn't stoppin. If you blow by in your car at 130+ they will not even pull out in most cases unless your weavin around traffic and the scanner won't even go off if they know theres plenty of exits and your goin faster then the 125 their car can do and your pretty much endangering yourself with no chance of them catching you. This is in stark contrast to NYC. You blow by at 160+ on a desolate road, arrow straight for the next 3 miles, not a car in sight, they'll pull out. Mind you they top out at 125 and their cars are terrible handling boats that don't feel planted at all at that speed. They still pull out. You slow down, notice em and takeoff through traffic they will go on the shoulder, around cars. Here's what happened to me and my buddy this summer. I copy and pasted it from my bike forum i posted it in. Theres smart profesional cops who follow what my friends father does "If the person doesn't have a gun, didn't kill anyone, doesn't pose a threat to the population UNLESS i chase them, then why bother. Hopefully i get a plate but i'm not killing anyone or myself in the process." Problem is all you need is one bad apple in every thousand to make things terribly wrong.
"and before I start, I have to say, I will post the details on this even if it gets back to me because the negligence behind the actions of NYPD should be the focus of this post and not the actions of the rider.
Its a holiday and nothing says "Holiday" like taking a ride to your favorite spot and relaxing. So around 10-ish, a buddy of mine and I took our regular ride to Floydd Bennett where we practice on turns, leans, braking and throttle control. We passed the Rockaway Ave. exit and crossed what is to be the first small bridge going west bound to the Verrazanno.
A unmarked, Blue, car was sitting on the grass waiting for violators like a cat waits for a rat in the dark. Now we passed that unmarked car going roughly around 65 mph, the same speed other cars were going. Even on the pass, I waved at him, as to say "I see you."
It wasn't a second later when this car was on the Belt, with flashing lights forcing cars out the way. I mean this guy was focus, switching lanes like he was Mario Andretti, and literally pushing cars out of his way.
Like always, there's no need to run. I pushed on my hazards, and pulled over to the right lane, reducing my speed down to 24mph. The dark Blue car flew pass me, at least 100mph. No interest in a law abiding Citizen that wants to stopped. ***** that. Instead he begins a chase of my buddy on his 2007 Gsxr1000, which by the way have had his bike K7 stolen before in Myrtle Beach of some punks posing as Cops. But Thats besides the point.
My buddy does not trust or like unmarks in any way. They want to stop him, they better get on the horn and get some mark squad cars on the scene. Not to justify his action at all, but he shifted down and bolted, switching lanes like he was Matt Malladin, and guess what, the unmarked followed, or at least, tried to.
The car tried to do a manuver into the far right lane and lost controll sending the car into the dirt and gravel, closly missing innocent drivers, coralling into a 360 drift, strait out of the fast and furious. This all took place just before the second Draw Bridge. The Car Kicked up so much dirt that it stopped traffic, west bound and east, and cause visibility to go from a clear day to nothing. My buddy got off at the flatbush exit and went on his merry way. Heres where the problems lies:
1.
When did it become NYPD sole responsiblity to chase motorbikes on the Belt Parkway, not taking into consideration the other motorist lives involved on the road?2.
It became an iminent threat as soon as that car left the grass....Not the Bikers that he was suppose to stop...but his action themselves, putting innocent motorist lives at risk, When the ***** are you going to stop?3.
What happened to me, the guy that wanted to get stop, (with all papers and doc) and let you know that, "we're not the bad guys that you make us out to be." What happen to your job, your oath, your responsibility? After the spin out, he still gaved chase like the mad man he is. I stood there with a big question mark over my head. The other motorists actually applauded
my buddy's escape and was angry
at the way this so call cop initiated his pursuit. Practically trying to kill everyone trying to get to my buddy and me. He left me there on a dusty parkway and shot off to put more motorist lives in danger. My Questions:
To NYC: When is all this going to end? How many people have to get hurt or killed in your efforts to do "God knows What"? Its your brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, aunt and uncles, out there on the same road that we ride. Bad enough that you share the road with bikers, now you have to worry about the law enforcement thats wants to catch bikers, this really sucks.
To TSSB: I think we have enough legit motorist here on this Forum to pass the word to other bikers and to the general public that we're the good guys, not the a$$holes the media has made us out to be. So we Bikers like to be "Free" from time to time, it shouldn't cost us our lives and most defenitly, the lives of innocent people. We have enough **** to worry about already.
Watch out; Belt Parkway, Flatbush Area, Killer Cops........"

How do you feel about "Supertroopers?"
How do you feel about "Supertroopers?"
This was in reply to a Bob post that was removed....but still holds info
Your posts in this thread are quickly trying my patience. You have contributed absolutely nothing to this what so ever. Anyone can go on you tube and find videos of bikers wrecking your little dream machines, so what validity do your cruiser wreck videos have? None. 90 percent of what you say is wrong and your reasoning makes zero sense. YOU ARE RUNNING FROM THE POLICE AND BLAMING THEM FOR CHASING YOU AND ENDANGERING LIVES. You are the one putting their lives and others lives in danger, they are doing their job. It is not up to the officer to be involved in a chase, it is up to their supervisors. Stop posting in this thread if you want to provide people with inaccurate facts in a sad attempt to validate yourself and your criminal actions. Rather than sit here and argue with you I along with many others from this forum will sit back and wait for your day to come, I assure you it will. I just hope that when it does come you don't take someone else with you.
Please stop posting in this thread. Do not reply to this, it is not an invitation to argument.
