works wonders, NAHO.

Also regarding the 5 shots being excessive. Police shoot to kill, not to injure, maim, or hinder. However, many rounds it takes to stop that person is the correct amount.
Hehe, I remember the military always saying, "Shoot to stop the threat." Then they'd get mad at me for tagging a paper target in the face. Seems to me the quickest way to put a guy on the ground is with a hit to the dome, especially with that pea-shooter Beretta M9 they'd give us. Some wacko all hopped up on PCP would probably keep running at you if you hit him with that thing.

My views changed entirely when they gave me an M-60 with a 200 round belt.
I got a counseling statement, once, a long time ago, for tagging 36/40 with head shots, shooting from my off-hand-side, when we were on a training range. I *told* them I dint need to waste the rounds, but they insisted, so I figured I'd work on my lone weakness... Head shots with my off-hand. The 4 I missed were at the simulated 400m distance, btw. 300m and closer and, with a m16... 1-round/1-kill. That's with my off-hand. Strong-side, I only missed 1 at 400m. Well, missed isn't exactly right, it went through the throat/upper-chest area.

I've only ever NOT shot expert twice, in my career. 1st was 1st qual at my very 1st PDS. Front sight was bent, but I still qualified. 2nd was when I went for my Germen ShutzenSchnuur. Got Silber (Sharp-Shooter equivalent). The MG3's a britch to make 3-shot groupings with!

(FTR, I've qualified expert on both teh 45 and the Barette, too, not bad for a City boy from Detroit, huh?)

Detroitshooting style, how's that go again? You hold the gun sideways and fire without aiming right?

You must be one of the smart Detroit folk!

When I first went for my Security Officer's registration for the Commonwealth of Virginia I opted to take teh armed cert, as well. Paid to qual with both the Revolver and ACP. Gonna re-qual, this spring, to open up my opportunities for P/T employment. Going for my GSA cert, too! Most GSA contracts, in the Metro DC area pay upwards of $18.00-hr/base-p/t. Supervisor positions pay at or over $30-hr, I'm told. Not bad for a p/t gig, I'm thinking...

Not bad at all, our p/t gigs run on average from $35-$50 an hour depending on what you do and where you are doing it. Sometimes you get lucky and find ones for $100 or more an hour.

PURE Detroit-style is more the drive-by/spray-and-floor-it school of shooting. I was in ROTC in H.S., all 5 years[8D], so I learned proper sight-alignment & sight-picture, BRAS, and a buncha other stuff, on teh shooting team.[:-]

Holding teh gun sideways dint become popular until after it came out in the movies...

Hi Ive always been interested in being a police officer/SWAT for a while now. Im 100% drug free and never caused any problems with the authority. im somewhat of a "good" boy. im hoping to sign up for fall classes next year. But I cant help to think what most cops listen to and what they do on there own time. i know its nobody buisness but what if your like me and like to listen to wu-tang and play video games on my spare time? what if i was off duty, driving around town listening to old school rap music really loud in my car? (none of the cop killing gangsta rap) would that look bad on my behalf? for some reason i always thought all cops listen to rock music and i dunno maybe having a bbq in thier backyard with there family lol. that sounds fun and all but i like to go to friends house and chill. maybe get shitfaced with the guys or maybe go to the dragstrip and record some vids. it might be none of the police dept buisness on what i do in my sparetime but what im trying to say is, do i need to CHANGE my lifestyle to be a police officer?

EDIT - forgot other question. what tires are equipped on your dept patrol cars? are they the goodyear eagle rsa? are those the ones "puncture" proof type?

hello
I sent a PM but without answer
another question( is it true or not?)
A friend of mine says, that if any US citizen commit a crime against a non citizen, the non citizen has the right ( it the suspect is caught) and of course with good lawyer, to ask for a green card. Is that true?
thanks

You can listen to whatever you want. I listen to rap, not nearly as much as I did before I finished training. I was the guy turning down my radio when I drove onto the academy parking lot. I think you will find that things are going to change once you have been on awhile. I used to hate country music, after training with all the older guys it's pretty much the only thing I now listen to. I wouldn't say it looks bad, but at the same time you don't wanna be pulling into work blasting NWA's F the police. Just do what I do, on the days you want to listen to music that you think people will look over see the uniform and go wtf, just roll the windows up. I think you are almost stereotyping police when you say all we do is get together and have BBQ's, trust me we know how to have a good time. It is almost a requirement thatto do so if you do this job. Your personal life is that, your personal life. As long as you arent doing anything illegal, there are no issues.

I would have to check, but we dont really use any special tires. We switched to snow tires recently for the winter, thats about it. No punctureproofs that I know of.

Not sure what you mean by green card. Even illegal immigrants who are arrested still have rights, no more or less than other criminals. They are not afforded residence because they have been imprisoned or charged. There may be rules which let them temporarily reside in the US until their trial is over, but other than that no. This is all speculation on my part, I do not know this answer for sure, it's outside the scope of my operations.

As for the answer to your PM your friend will have to go back to the motor vehicle office and get a new license. They are usually destroyed. Just have him call.

Since so many have taken the time to post stories regarding an officer being over cautious on a traffic stop consider this my retort

News Story - Officer killed during traffic stop in FL
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=3599207

News Story - Miss. Officer dragged to death by vehicle he stopped for speeding
http://www.policeone.com/officer-down/1186427/
(this addresses why the officer previously mentioned MAY have opened fire when the car sped off)

News Story - AZ officer fatally shot during traffic stop
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...alcop0220.html

News Story - 2 Detroit officers fatally shot during traffic stop
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Midwest/0...icers.shot.ap/

Videos

Not all are traffic but these are videos we watch during training as a reminder of how cautious we have to be

Video - 2 Officers shot durring robbery ( not for the faint of heart ) both officers die
http://www.nothingtoxic.com/media/11...ot_By_a_Madman

Video - Officer shot during traffic stop, suspect caught, officer lives
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=6c3_1189822317&p=1

Not quite sure if this was a stop or a call, officer lives
http://www.filecabi.net/video/femaleface.html

This is the result of a traffic stop, the death was a result of poor tactics, officer dies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF-BtESLEsU

Female Officer knocked out cold, lives (disturbing)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp3bt0GwVJw

There are more but they are a bit graphic. One in particular where a guy shoots the officer with a rifle because the officer was being too lenient. In the end you hear the officer plead for his life right before the driver walks up to him and shoots him in the head. An interview was done with the officer's killer later on, the killer stated that he shot the officer because the officer was overly nice to him which gave him the power to take his life. In this case the officer was killed because first he let the suspect exit the car and then he let him return to it later which is when he grabbed his rifle.

The point of this post is so I can refer someone to this when they post a video of someone being tasered on a traffic stop, etc.
