So I have taken those test before completely sober and got thrown in the back of the car for being stoned. It all worked out, luckly police officers out here don't care about pot that much. So just to revise all those test may be able to detect usage but aren't perfect, if you clean take a urine test,

Alrighty. For all that search and seizure and pot stuffs check this out. I watched this a couple years ago. Some of you have probably seen it. Its the BUSTED: The Citizens Guide To Surviving Police Encounters. Goes over all your rights as a citizen and basically boils down the "probable cause" thing. 45 minutes long but imo, well worth the 45 minutes and couple beers you could drink in the time you watch it.

Notahondaowner, if you decide to watch it or have already done so, feedback. Oh, and thanks for your pace ticket advice, gotta get all the info I can before I go in.

I watched the first 15 minutes of it. It's not bad and pretty accurate. I like that is also mentions aides for citizens to help protect officers such as having your hands visible. If more people watched this video it would make my job a bit more difficult. The truth of it all is if the officer really wanted in the car all he had to do was radio for K9, if available at a reasonable response time, and see if the dog indicates on the car. If the dog did, boom, officer gets to search the vehicle. The video is a bit outdated it seems. For those interested you would want to look up Terry searches, consent, probable cause statutes, etc.

Is it true that cops can get canines to falsely indicate whenever they want?

Absolutely not. Can an officer train his dog to do so, probably. Most K9 officers are highly trained veterans they are not going to waste their time searching a car where the dog has not "truly" indicated that there is something to be found.

1- Depends on how slow they are going. If you are referring to the slow people who are just driving the exact speed limit then, no. Tractor trailers and buses, vehicles that are by definition slow, are supposed to stay in the right lane unless they are passing.

2- In this state you can NOT make a left turn on red ever. If there are signs that allow you to that is different, but I have seen a left turn on red sign around here. If the light is flashing red then yes you may turn left, after coming to a complete stop and being sure there is no oncoming traffic.

3- We do, that is my favorite ticket to give out because it drives me crazy. I actually just ticketed someone for this last week because he was tailgating my fully marked police car to the point that I couldn't see his headlights. It is hard to enforce this one because tailgaters see our cruisers and tend to back off before we notice.

4- I would assume it is 35mph, but that is one I will look up later.

5- You can call the police non-emergency number and report them. What happens then is the vehicle is given as a look out in case officers are in the area. We can not ticket for traffic offenses that did not occur in our presence, except for accidents where we have a witness summonsed to court. If it is a DUI then you can follow the vehicle and provide updated location information until an officer reaches you.

6- I never got them. I keep anything police related off my car, there are too many people who would key a car with police stuff on it. Also contrary to popular belief these stickers do NOT prevent you from getting pulled over.

...ummm, yeah, THOSE slow people who drive teh speed-limit ar the ones I was referring to. They're WORSE that people who drive within the lines[:@]- j/k

...good to know, actually. I've actually made a left-on-red, from a one-way to a one-way, a couple times in the 8-years I been in teh area. In Michigan, one of the 1st US states to enact a right-turn-on-red law, you CAN make a left on red, onto a one-way street, as long as you clear oncomming.

...I wish it wre more actively enforced. EVERYtime I drive I have to choke back the urge to brake-check every tail-gater who gets SO CLOSE I can't see their headlights. That's TOO FRIKKIN' CLOSE, IMHO! I wish I cud lock 'em up and teach 'em ALL a lesson!!! My g/f included. She does it EVERY time she gets behind teh wheel. Scares the living sch1t outta me!

4- I would assume it is 35mph, but that is one I will look up later.

...follow up, what are the chances, you think, of me getting a ticket for taking an exit ramp at, say, 75-80mph? See, I have this bad habit of... Oh, nevermind.

...Yeah, I say a DV, once, driving home from Lowes, and I called it in and followed teh car for like 45 minutes while the driver beat the crap outta some female while 2-3 kids hopped around the backseat of the Explorer they were driving in. After 45 minutes of following, and keeping the lady on the 911 line updated to our progress, I got the impession I was wasting everyones time so I broke off and gave the nice lady the license, make/model/color/occupant description.

6- I never got them. I keep anything police related off my car, there are too many people who would key a car with police stuff on it. Also contrary to popular belief these stickers do NOT prevent you from getting pulled over.

...back when I stayed in Ghettoville... OOps, meant East-Beruit... Darnit! Forestville!!! (sorry, fruedian-slip), I had an FOP sticker on my car and it was vandalized about 2-3 times a week, in some way or another. Sometimes small, once someone backed into my front end. so, yeah, I was kidding about the stickerz. I still sport my FOP, though. Some things I will not back down from, ever!

4- unless the officer was directly behind you I would have to say very very slim. There are no safe spots to set up on a ramp to check for speeders and most people do not speed around a ramp because either their car or driving skills are not adequate to speed around turns.

5- Where in MD was this? Our response times are usually very good.
