I'm buying my first pistol next month and am doing a lot of searching before I pick one out. I have allowed myself to spend $500 on one and want a 9mm but not sure what I should by. I'm going to go through a local shooting range/gun shop to buy it, so I might even get a used one. I live in Kansas and our concealed law goes in effect on 1/1/07. I plan on taking my classes to get the permit as soon as the state allows. I am all for concealed fire arms. This world is getting out of hand and you have to protect yourself. It's a free country and the citizens should be able to defend themselves since the proper authorities have a tough time doing it.

Any suggestions for a 9mm in the $500 range?

IM moving to WA !
thats soo easy compared to the loopholes you have to jump through here
in Cali.. [:'(]

I like the HKs... pricey though
I didn't know you were moving to WA! Swee... Where about's?

I just about bought an H&K Compact .40, but the price was a big influence on me. It's a great gun, don't get me wrong!

Glock 19 (9mm). You'll find that it's the same as the gun I currently own, just chambered in the 9mm round, and holds 2 more bullets than mine does. It's a great gun, and right at the $500 - $520 range. Any more than that, and you have over paid!

I would suggest you find a shop that has a range attached to it. They will usually let you try out several different guns, to find the one that will suit your needs the best. There are a lot of factors that will determine the type of gun that you carry. Clothing style, location, temperature, job, etc. All have a major part in what you go with.

I would go with the H&K Compact (9mm or .40) if you've got the money. The Sig Sauer P229 is also a good choice, or any model glock. My reccomendations...

does carrying a colt 45 with shaved off serial numbers, loaded w/ the safety off in the waist of your pants count as a concealed weapon...

j/k us canadians don't believe in carrying firearms. HOWEVER, since i now live in the states i am getting ready to buy one and get my permit (god you americans scare me)

This is such an interesting post. I am scheduled to take a concealed carry class. My boyfriend and I frequently go to the range. He bought me a nice handgun. Hope I never need it but YOU ARE SO RIGHT: better to have and not need than need and not have! I am glad others feel same.

Not yet have my CWP for MD, but I plan on doing so before next summer. I work security, so, once I get *RE*-registered, Armed (I let it lapse, I'm retarded), I will be able to apply for, and recieve a CWP. I also plan on upgrading my security registration to GSA, and pursuing employment in that venue, as well, so I'll also be able to join the F.O.P. (say what you want, I believe it helps... The only tickets I've had since becoming a supporter have been in rent-a-wrecks, not my stickered car(s)
